start

Starts the connector after resizing core and transport to columns x rows. This synchronous call permits one attempt. Concurrent or reentrant attempts throw IllegalStateException, as does starting a closed session.

State remains TerminalSessionState.Created and input is ignored until TerminalConnector.start returns successfully. Startup output is consumed synchronously, but replies wait in the bounded outbound queue. If shutdown has not begun, TerminalSessionState.Running then admits input and the writer starts, preserving queued replies ahead of later input.

Startup failure closes owned resources, retains the failure in state, and rethrows it with any cleanup failures suppressed. Call off UI threads; synchronous startup output may decode images.
